On March 30, 2000 the Chamber for Patent Cases to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus was created. Now the only court instance in RB that is competent in consideration of disputes about industrial property subjects is the Chamber for Patent Cases to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus. It is a court of the first instance.
Since December 30, 2002, according to Amendments and Supplements to the Civil Processual Code of the Republic of Belarus the competence of the Chamber for Patent Cases were widened. Nowadays the Chamber is in charge of not only cases connected with disputes about industrial property subjects but also cases related to copyright and related rights protection, that is any cases in respect of all intellectual property objects as a whole
Belarussian legislation also allows border measures to be applied with regard to the infringement of IP rights. Proceedings can be initiated by a third party through a written application. If the customs authorities seize goods as a result of the application, they must inform the applicant and the recipient of the goods immediately
